White spaces provide new opportunities for WISPs and Telcos for leveraging unlicensed spectrum to provide wireless internet and broadband connectivity.  Rural network operators whose business model allows them to use freely available and unlicensed spectrum will find the TV Wwhite spaces channels especially to their liking.  The probability of significant free frequencies coupled with excellent propagation characteristics could provide a much needed solution for cost-effective broadband connectivity for their customers.

Machine to Machine Communications

Demand is growing on a daily basis for automatic utility meter reading, weather monitoring, vending machine monitoring, remote/mobile point of sale and other similar services.  White spaces spectrum provides a set of frequencies that can provide both the bandwidth and reach to create a cost-effective machine-to-machine (M2M) network, particularly when it leverages the WISP or Telco’s core network.
